HRYL Program Description

Herndon-Reston Youth Lacrosse (HRYL) is a youth sports program organized under the Optimist Club of Herndon Virginia and a member club in the Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League (NVYLL). We are a recreational, developmental youth lacrosse program run entirely by volunteers. The HRYL management team are people in your community who share a commitment to giving back to their community and improving the lives of children in our community. Our program focuses on skill development, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

The success of all players depends on significant parent participation – especially for our youngest athletes. Parent engagement in all aspects of our program is crucial for the cognitive, emotional, and physical development of all players.

Participant Eligibility

All boys age 5-14 as of September 1 and girls in grades K through 8 are eligible to participate. Boys are grouped into divisions based on their age (e.g., 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U). Girls are grouped into divisions based on their school grade (e.g., K-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8).

HRYL follows the NVYLL High School Pyramid Policy. If your child’s elementary or middle school feeds into Herndon High School (HHS) or South Lakes High School (SLHS), your child is required to play lacrosse with HRYL. If your child attends a private or parochial school in Herndon or Reston, you may request a waiver so your child can play lacrosse with HRYL.
