Herndon Optimist Club Youth Civic Programs and Activities
College Scholarships (February-May)
The Herndon Optimist Club selects up to three young sportsmen and sportswomen who have participated in Herndon Optimist Club youth sports and civic programs and demonstrated a commitment to serve their community to each receive $2000 to be used for their first year of college tuition. The HOC College Scholarship application form is posted on the HOC Home Page by February. Applications are due soon after the FCPS Spring Break ends. Award winners are notified in May.
Friday Night Live! (May-August)
The Herndon Optimist Club coordinates and provides Event Staff volunteers for the Friday Night Live! (FNL) family-oriented outdoor music concerts held every Friday night from 6-10pm May through August. In return, the Herndon Chamber of Commerce donates a portion of the event proceeds to the Herndon Optimist Club to fund its administration and programs. Homecoming Parade for Herndon High School (September or October)
Herndon Optimist Club youth sports program participants march in the HHS Homecoming Parade.
National Night Out (August)
The Herndon Optimist Club youth sports programs host "Herndon Optimist Families Night Out" at a local park. Kids receive treats for completing three sports stations. The Herndon Police Department officers and Town Council members stop by to meet local families.
