Herndon Optimist Club Youth Civic Programs and Activities - Chairperson(s)

College Scholarships (February-May) - Jennifer Baker and John DeYoung
Herndon Optimist Club members select up to three young sportsmen/women who have demonstrated a commitment to serve their community to receive up to $2000 to be used for their first year of college tuition. The HOC College Scholarship application form is posted under "Club Documents and Forms" in February. Applications are due soon after the FCPS Spring Break ends and award winners are notified in May.

Friday Night Live (May-August) - George and Laura Price
Herndon Optimist Club members volunteer their time as gate marshals for the family-oriented outdoor music events held every Friday night from May through August. In return, the Herndon Chamber of Commerce donates a portion of the event proceeds to the Herndon Optimist Club to fund its civic programs. Herndon Festival (Late May-Early June) - Terry Petty
Herndon Optimist Club members and adult volunteers sell beer, wine, soda, water and pizza at a booth at the family-oriented outdoor Herndon Festival event held every year in late May-early June. Event proceeds are used to support our youth civic and sports programs.

Homecoming Parade for Herndon High School (September or October) - Jasmine Faubert
Herndon Optimist Club youth sports league players and coaches march in the HHS Homecoming Parade.

Homecoming Parade for South Lakes High School (October) - Ann Duffey
Herndon Optimist Club youth sports league players and coaches march in the SLHS Homecoming Parade.

National Night Out (August) - Eileen Villegas
Herndon Optimist Club members and youth sports league coaches host "Herndon Optimist Families Night Out" at a local park and invite Herndon Police Department officers to join us for pick-up games and pizza.

Partners-in-Education (PIE) School Grants (October-January) - Jasmine Faubert
Herndon Optimist Club awards up to two $600 grants each year based on proposals submitted by Herndon High School pyramid elementary and middle school principals for projects that directly benefit children in their school. The HOC PIE School Grant application form is posted under "Club Documents and Forms" in October. Applications are due mid-November and award winners will be notified in early January.
